The table lists the UK App Store rating, the number of ratings behind it and the company named as the seller, for every bookmaker and exchange we review, from the most-rated down. Ratings are a blunt instrument: a handful of angry reviews can sink a small app, and a young brand has had less time to collect them. The seller name is useful in its own right, as the next section explains.
A dash means no UK App Store listing was recorded for that brand. Ratings are taken from the UK App Store and change over time.

How to download a betting app safely
Getting a betting app on your phone takes a minute. Getting the right one takes a little more care.
Use the official stores. Download from the Apple App Store or Google Play, or follow the download link on the bookmaker's own website. Google Play only carries real-money betting apps from licensed operators that have completed its gambling application, and requires those apps to keep out under-age users. Avoid installation files passed around on forums or messaging apps.
Check the seller. The listing names the company behind the app. It should match the bookmaker or its group: bet365's app is sold by Hillside Technology Limited, Coral and Ladbrokes by Entain Operations Limited. If the name means nothing, look it up before you register.
Check the licence. Every bookmaker taking bets from British customers must hold a UK Gambling Commission licence. Search the brand or its website on the Gambling Commission public register and make sure the domain is listed as active.
Expect age and identity checks. Licensed operators must verify your name, address and date of birth before you can bet. A bookmaker that lets you skip that step is not one to trust with your money.

Betting app features to look for
Live streaming, and the rules behind it. Some apps stream racing to any funded account, others want a bet on the race. William Hill asks for £1 on the race, while bet365 streams to a funded account or anyone who has bet in the last 24 hours.
Cash out, ideally partial. Taking part of a bet off the table is more flexible than all or nothing. BetVictor offers both, and extends cash out to each-way racing bets.
Bet builders and boosts. Same-game bet builders are now standard; boosts and acca insurance vary more. Compare them in our UK bookmaker reviews.
Racing concessions. Best Odds Guaranteed and extra places are worth more than any welcome offer over a season. Check whether BOG needs an opt-in.
