There is no Sky Bet promo code to find: the joining offer is applied through the sign-up promotion itself. Register, deposit £5 or more, and your first bet — a single or each-way at evens or bigger — triggers £30 in free bets.

The catch is modest. Customers who deposit with Neteller or Skrill do not qualify for the welcome bonus, the first bet must be placed within 30 days of registration, and the free bets cannot be used on virtual racing. Otherwise the free bet offer is generous in scope: the three £10 tokens go on any single or each-way market, horse racing included, and each lasts 30 days.

Sky Bet sign-up offer: how the £30 in free bets works

Sky Bet keeps this one simple. Sign up through the welcome promotion, deposit at least £5 and make your first bet a single or each-way bet at odds of 1/1 or greater on any Sky Bet market. That earns three £10 free bets. You have 30 days from registration to place the qualifying bet and a further 30 days from crediting to use each token, which is a good deal more breathing room than the seven days some bookmakers allow.

For a racing punter the evens minimum is the only real constraint. Odds-on favourites will not qualify, but almost anything else in a competitive handicap will, and an each-way bet counts as a qualifier provided the price is evens or bigger. Once credited, the £10 tokens can go on a horse at any price, single or each-way, though virtual racing is off limits.

Best Odds Guaranteed and each-way terms

Sky Bet’s Best Odds Guaranteed is reserved for Sky Bet Club members who qualified the previous week. To qualify, opt in to the Club and stake £30 at odds of evens or bigger between Monday and Sunday; the following week, win and each-way bets on British and Irish racing placed from 9am on race day are paid at the starting price if it beats the price you took. The extra is capped at £50,000 per bet or race, or £25,000 for repeat bets. Ante-post, Tote, enhanced and packaged accumulators, price boosts, specials, in-running and cashed-out bets are excluded, as are Money Back as Cash races and Extra Place races. The arrangement has run since 15 January 2024.

Each-way terms are published in the racing rules. Fields of two to four runners are win only; five to seven runners pay a quarter the odds on the first two; non-handicaps of eight or more pay a fifth on three places. Handicaps of eight to 11 runners pay a fifth on three, 12 to 15 a quarter on three, and 16 or more a quarter on four. Our each-way calculator will show what those terms mean for your stake.

Bet types

Win, each-way and place betting cover anything from two to eight places, alongside forecasts, tricasts, unnamed favourite and second favourite markets, insure bets, betting without, ante-post and in-running. Extra place concessions appear on selected races as promotions, but remember that Best Odds Guaranteed does not apply to them, even for Club members.

Streaming and racing features

Log in and use Watch Live wherever it appears to stream the race. The pictures come from a third-party feed and run two to five seconds behind real time, so in-running punters should bear that in mind. Sky Bet free bet terms: the 5p qualifier and what the tokens can do

A 5p minimum makes this one of the cheapest welcome offers to trigger in Britain, but the terms around it are tighter than the headline suggests.

Who counts as a new customer

Sky Bet treats anyone who has ever held an account with any Sky Betting & Gaming brand as an existing customer, so a dormant Sky Bingo or Sky Poker login rules you out. You also need to enter card details at registration for verification, and the offer is limited to one claim per customer.

Only the first bet counts

The qualifying bet is your very first bet, and it must be a single or each-way at evens or bigger. Several small bets that add up to the minimum do not count, and neither does a first bet on a short-priced favourite. If that first bet is a double, or a 4/6 shot, the offer is gone.

Where the £10 tokens can go

Each token works on a single or each-way market, horse racing included, but not on multiples, accumulators or virtuals, and it cannot be combined with another promotion, so a price boost or Money Back token is off the table on a free bet. To apply one, make your selection and tap the orange present icon on the bet slip. Tokens are non-withdrawable, and the stake is not included in any return.

A worked example

You register, deposit £5 and back a 2/1 shot for 5p. Three £10 tokens are credited, each with 30 days to run. One goes on a 5/1 winner and returns £50 in cash; the other two can wait for the weekend’s big handicaps. The 5p stake makes it cheap to qualify, so there is little reason to risk more on the first bet than you would normally stake.

Sky Bet ties most of its ongoing value to one weekly staking target, so it pays to know what you get for hitting it.

Sky Bet Club rewards

Opt in, stake £30 in cash at evens or bigger between Monday and Sunday, and as well as next week’s Best Odds Guaranteed you earn a weekly reward of two £2.50 free bets. If you do nothing, they arrive as BuildABet free bets, but you can switch them before Sunday night to horse racing, football, in-play, NFL or basketball. They are credited by 7pm on the Monday and last seven days. Cashed-out, void and Tote bets, and anything staked with free bets or bonus funds, do not count towards the £30. The reward is limited to one per customer, household and IP address, and missing the target two weeks running removes you from the Club.

Money Back as Cash tokens

On selected races, Sky Bet issues Money Back as Cash tokens through its promotions hub. Opt in, apply the token to a win single or each-way single on the main market of a race with at least five runners, and if the horse loses you get your stake back as cash, not a free bet, within 72 hours. The maximum refund varies by customer and is shown on the promotion. Token bets do not qualify for Best Odds Guaranteed but do count towards your weekly Club stake. Free bet stakes, cashed-out bets, forecasts, tricasts and unnamed favourite markets are excluded, and a non-runner returns the token.

Extra Places on horses and greyhounds

Selected races pay one more place than the standard each-way terms, with the enhanced and standard terms shown at the top of the market. Sky Bet runs the same concession on selected greyhound races. Tote bets settle on standard place terms, and Sky Bet can withdraw or change the extra place if a non-runner shortens the odds of finishing in the frame.

Free-to-play and boosts

Super 6 and ITV7 give Sky Bet customers free predictor games, and its help centre also lists Ghost Leg, Super Sub, Boosters and Super Sunday Boosts among the regular sports promotions, each with its own terms.

Our verdict: is Sky Bet good for horse racing?

Sky Bet is a friendly place to bet on racing. The racecards carry Timeform previews and star ratings, replays and live pictures sit a tap away, place terms are published in full and the welcome offer asks very little: a £5 deposit, one bet at evens or bigger and £30 in free bets that last a month. ITV7 adds a free-to-play jackpot on Saturdays, and the app is one of the best-rated in British betting.

The problem is Best Odds Guaranteed, the one concession a racing punter should never have to earn. At Sky Bet it belongs to Sky Bet Club members who staked £30 at evens or bigger the previous week, and even then it does not apply to Extra Place or Money Back races. If you bet every week, that hurdle is easily cleared. If you bet only on the big Saturdays, you will often be taking an early price without the safety net, and that costs Sky Bet a point or two here.
