Betfair promo code

VAL225 is the Betfair Promo Code for the Exchange, the code Betfair publishes for its Exchange welcome offer. Enter this Betfair bonus code when you register and, if your first Exchange bet loses, your stake comes back as cash, up to £20: cash rather than a free bet, which makes it one of the cleaner welcome deals around.
The Betfair sign-up offer is for new UK customers aged 18 and over. The Sportsbook runs its own joining offer under ZSKAOL, bet £10 and get £50 in free bets, applied automatically when you sign up through the Sportsbook banner on betfair.com; those free bets go on Bet Builders, accumulators and multiples rather than racing singles.

Betfair sign-up offers: Exchange cash refund and Sportsbook free bets
For a racing punter, the Exchange offer is the more useful of the two. Place your first Exchange bet — back a horse in a race on the day, say — and if it loses, Betfair refunds the stake as cash up to £20. If it wins, you keep the winnings, less the usual commission. Either way you finish the week knowing how the Exchange works, which is the point of the offer. Fund the account by debit card, as Apple Pay deposits are excluded.
The Sportsbook offer suits a different punter. Five £10 free bets are worth £50, and they last 30 days, but they must go on Bet Builders, accumulators or multiples across any sport. The qualifying bet cannot be a system bet such as a Yankee or Lucky 15, and bets placed on the same market, cashed out or made void do not count.
- Register as a new UK customer and use Promo Code VAL225 for the Exchange offer, or sign up through the Sportsbook banner for ZSKAOL.
- Deposit by debit card for the Exchange offer; the Sportsbook offer also accepts Pay by Bank and Apple Pay, with a £10 minimum.
- Place your first Exchange bet and have it settled within 7 days; a losing stake comes back as cash, up to £20.
- For the Sportsbook offer, bet £10 at evens or bigger within 30 days and use the five £10 free bets within 30 days.
Betfair horse racing: back, lay, BSP and the Sportsbook
Betfair covers British, Irish and international racing on both platforms, and the two complement each other. The Exchange is where serious racing punters go for prices: win and place markets on every race, Betfair Starting Price, and the ability to lay. The Sportsbook offers fixed odds with each-way betting, forecasts, tricasts, Same Race Multiples, Extra Places and, from 1 October 2026, Best Odds Guaranteed. Both live in the same account. If exchanges are new to you, our betting exchange guide covers the basics.
Back and lay betting on racing
Backing on the Exchange works as it does with a bookmaker, except the price comes from another punter willing to lay it. Laying is the reverse: you act as the bookmaker and win the backer’s stake if the horse loses. Lay stakes are shown as liability, the amount you lose if the selection wins. Lay a horse at 5.0 to a £10 stake and your liability is £40. Every Exchange market can be laid, and place markets run separately from the win market, so you can back or lay a horse to finish in the frame. Each-way on the Exchange is offered as its own market with fixed place terms, whatever the number of runners.
Betfair Starting Price
Betfair SP is calculated at the off by matching SP back requests against SP lay liabilities and any unmatched Exchange bets, with no margin built in. Projected Near and Far prices are shown before the race. The minimum is a £1 back stake or £10 lay liability, and an unmatched lay bet converts to SP only if its liability is £10 or more. Limit-on-close requests let you set a floor (or ceiling) on the price. There is no BSP on ante-post markets, and Betfair’s help centre says SP betting is available on desktop only.
Best Odds Guaranteed and each-way terms
Betfair Sportsbook launched Best Odds Guaranteed on 1 October 2026. It covers all British and Irish racing from 8am on race day, singles and multiples, win and each-way, with no opt-in. The minimum total stake is £25, and the extra paid is capped at £1,000 per customer per day. Free bets, Money Back and Second Chance tokens, Bet Boost tokens, odds boosts, ante-post, in-running, forecasts, place-only, betting without and insurance bets are excluded. BOG does not apply on the Exchange, where you are matched at the price you take. Sportsbook Extra Places run on selected races, singles and multiples, with no opt-in. Work out each-way returns with our each-way calculator.
Streaming and racing features
Live video of British, Irish, UAE, Latin American, Mauritian and Australian racing needs a £1 total stake on the race on the Sportsbook (a £1 single or 50p each way) or a £2 matched bet on the day-of-race market on the Exchange. US and South African racing need only a funded account, with an Exchange balance of £2 or more. Ante-post and specials bets do not count. Betfair’s racing hub carries Timeform tips, and our today’s racing page has the day’s cards and form.
Betfair joining offers compared: the Exchange refund and Sportsbook free bet terms
Betfair runs two separate welcome deals, and the Sportsbook terms state that its offer cannot be combined with any other sign-up offer. Decide which product you will actually use before you register.
Exchange: VAL225 cash refund
Open to new customers in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Your first Exchange bet, at up to £20, must be placed and settled within seven days of opening the account, and the deposit must be made by debit card, with Apple Pay excluded. If it loses, the stake is refunded as cash, not as a free bet, within 72 hours of settlement. Back a horse at 4.0 for £20: if it loses, £20 comes back as withdrawable cash; if it wins, you collect £60 profit less the 5% commission, so £57.
Sportsbook: ZSKAOL free bets
The Sportsbook code cannot be typed in. It is applied only when you register through the banner on betfair.com. Deposit at least £10 by Pay by Bank, debit card or Apple Pay, then place a £10 bet at evens (2.0) or bigger within 30 days of opening the account. The five £10 free bets arrive once that bet settles and appear in the My Bonuses tab, valid for 30 days on Free Bet Builders, accumulators or multiples on any sport.
The excluded qualifiers go beyond the obvious. As well as Trixies, Yankees and Lucky 15s, Patents, Canadians, Heinz, Super Heinz, Goliaths and Lucky 31s and 63s are all out, as are unmatched, void and cashed-out bets and anyone who has held a Betfair account before. You also need a phone that can receive SMS for verification.
A Sportsbook worked example
Deposit £10 by debit card and back a horse at 2/1 for £10. Once the race is settled, five £10 free bets land. Put one on a four-fold football acca at 10/1 that comes in and you receive £100, since the £10 free bet stake is not returned. Note that the free bets cannot go on a single, so a racing fan’s natural home for them is a horse racing multiple, such as a double or treble across the afternoon’s card.
Betfair promotions for existing customers: Second Chance tokens, rewards and racing refunds
Most of Betfair’s ongoing offers are opt-in and many are by invitation, so the Promotions tab on desktop, or the Don’t miss out banner in the app, is the place to check what your account has been offered.
Second Chance tokens
These replace a flat money-back offer with a token you apply yourself. Single tokens work on horse racing singles: add the horse to the slip, tap the present box and choose the token, and if the horse loses after finishing in one of the race’s qualifying positions, the stake comes back as a free bet up to the token’s limit. On big Saturdays such as British Champions Day at Ascot, Betfair has offered them up to £50. Multi tokens do the same for accas and Bet Builders. Tokens need a cash stake, a non-runner returns the token, dead-heat rules apply to the refund, and cashing out loses it. A bet placed with a token does not count towards other promotions.
Non-Runner Money Back and Extra Place races
Ante-post markets on the biggest races, such as the Grand National and the Cheltenham Festival, typically switch to Non-Runner Money Back four to six weeks before the meeting, so your stake comes back if the horse misses the race. Daily Extra Place races, marked with a white plus sign in a yellow circle, typically pay a fourth and sometimes a fifth place on each-way bets.
Boosts, Superboosts and 90 Minute Payout
Boosts appear on event pages and under each sport’s Specials tab, with racing and football the main targets; Superboosts are bigger, more selective enhancements. On football, the Match Odds 90 market settles on the 90-minute result in UK and major European leagues, so a late winner in added time still counts.
Weekly Bet and Get offers
Invited customers get weekly opt-in offers. A typical version pays a free bet for staking a set amount on accas or Bet Builders of three or more legs at combined odds of 1/2 or bigger, with the free bet credited within an hour of settlement and valid for seven days on another three-leg bet. Selected Exchange customers have been offered a £10 free Exchange bet for a £10 back bet at 1.2 or bigger, with lay bets and ante-post excluded.
My Betfair Rewards
Exchange regulars choose a monthly rewards package that trades bonuses against commission rate, with the options shown side by side in My Account. Bonuses are credited on the first day of the following month, usually by noon, if you hit the package’s minimum betting; Sportsbook bets do not count towards it, and a package switch normally takes effect from the start of the next month. Be aware that customers on the Basic package are excluded from many invited promotions, including the weekly free bet offers.
Betfair commission and liquidity
Betfair charges commission only on net winnings in a market, and nothing on markets where you lose. UK customers pay a Market Base Rate of 5%, so a £100 net win on a race costs £5. The formula is net winnings multiplied by the Market Base Rate, multiplied by 100% minus any discount rate, and discounts are available through Betfair Points or My Betfair Rewards packages. An Expert Fee, which replaced the old Premium Charge, applies to a small number of long-term winning customers.
What the commission buys is liquidity. Betfair is the largest exchange in Britain, and at peak times bets on British racing are matched almost immediately, with the deepest markets on racing, in-play football and televised events. That depth is the main reason to use Betfair over smaller exchanges with lower headline commission, as our horse betting sites guide explains.
Betfair app and payments
Betfair’s app holds a 4.7 rating on the UK App Store from more than 30,000 ratings, and its screenshots show the Exchange front and centre: back and lay prices on the same screen and MatchMe, which lets you set your own odds. Compare it with the rest of the market in our betting apps guide.
Deposits can be made by Visa or Mastercard debit card, Apple Pay, Pay by Bank, bank transfer, PayPal, Skrill and Neteller. Remember that only debit card deposits qualify for the Exchange welcome offer, and e-wallets do not count towards the Sportsbook offer. Support is through live chat.
Is Betfair safe and legit?

Our verdict on Betfair for horse racing
No other British betting brand gives a racing punter so many ways to play. The Exchange lets you back a horse at a price set by other punters, lay one you think will lose, or take Betfair Starting Price, which is struck at the off with no bookmaker’s margin. Liquidity on British racing is the deepest of any exchange, so bets are matched almost at once at busy times. Alongside it sits a conventional Sportsbook that, since 1 October 2026, pays Best Odds Guaranteed without an opt-in.
The reasons it stops at 8 are mostly about cost and fine print. Exchange winnings carry a 5% commission on each market, and an Expert Fee applies to a small number of long-term winners. The Sportsbook’s Best Odds Guaranteed only covers stakes totalling £25 or more and is capped at £1,000 a day, which rules out most small-stakes punters. And according to the help centre, Betfair SP bets can only be placed on desktop.
