  • Best at: Transparency on place terms, with standard each-way terms published in full, field size by field size.
  • Sports: A full sportsbook with cash out on football and other sports; racing, greyhounds and Tote pools sit close to the centre of the app.
  • Racing features: Opt-in BOG on UK and Irish racing, £5 minimum stake, £1,000 daily cap; daily Extra Place races; live streams with a funded account and a bet.
  • Betting features we like: Double Result on horses disqualified after the race, Money Back Tokens, Power Prices, Same Race Multiples and Tote Placepot, Quadpot and Jackpot.
8/10

Horse.bet verdict: A serious racing book with clear place terms, Double Result and a top-rated app. The opt-in, £5 minimum and £1,000 daily cap on BOG are the strings to watch.

Paddy Power sign-up offer: how bet £5, get £30 works

The mechanics are refreshingly short. Open an account, deposit at least £5 by Pay by Bank, Apple Pay or debit card, and place a sports bet of £5 or more at odds of evens (2.0) or greater within 30 days. Once that bet settles, win or lose, £30 in free bets lands in the account, and you have 30 days to use them. That expiry is generous by industry standards; plenty of rivals give you a week. Paddy Power does not publish how the £30 is split, so check the free bet tokens in your account before you build a Saturday around them.

Evens is a meaningful threshold on a racecard. It rules out every odds-on favourite, so a racing punter qualifying with a horse will be backing one at even money or bigger. Do not try to qualify with a Trixie, Yankee or Lucky 15: system bets are excluded, as are bets struck at a boosted price, and a bet you cash out early will not count either.

  1. Register as a new UK customer and enter Promo Code YSKAST.
  2. Deposit £5 or more by Pay by Bank, Apple Pay or debit card. E-wallet deposits do not qualify.
  3. Place a £5 sports bet at evens or bigger within 30 days of opening the account, and let it run without cashing out.
  4. Use the £30 in free bets within 30 days of receiving them. Free bet stakes are not returned with winnings.

Paddy Power horse racing: BOG, place terms and racing extras

Racing sits close to the centre of the Paddy Power sportsbook. Every British and Irish meeting is priced, international and overseas racing runs alongside, and a Future Racing section carries the ante-post markets for the big spring and summer festivals. Tote pools are available too, with the Placepot, Quadpot and Jackpot all on the menu, and the Meetings & Results tab flags which races carry extra places on the day. It is a broad offer, and the racing extras — Double Result, Money Back Tokens, Power Prices — give the regular punter reasons to keep coming back.

Best Odds Guaranteed and each-way terms

Paddy Power pays Best Odds Guaranteed on British and Irish racing, singles and multiples, win and each-way. There are three conditions worth knowing before you rely on it. You must opt in once through the promotions page; only bets of £5 or more qualify; and the extra paid out is capped at £1,000 per customer per day. The exclusions list is long: free bets, Money Back tokens, Power Prices and Power Ups, ante-post, in-running, forecasts, place-only, betting without, insurance, Lengthen Your Odds, Same Race Multiples and international racing all sit outside it.

Place terms, by contrast, are set out in the horse racing rules for anyone to read. Handicaps with 16 or more runners pay a quarter the odds on the first four; handicaps of 12 to 15 runners pay a quarter on the first three; other races of eight or more pay a fifth on three places; five to seven runners pay a quarter on two; and fields of fewer than five are win only. Run the numbers on any bet with our each-way calculator.

Bet types

Win, each-way and place-only singles are joined by forecasts, tricasts, betting without, insurance bets, Same Race Multiples and Lengthen Your Odds, plus ante-post through Future Racing and Tote Placepot, Quadpot and Jackpot. Tote Jackpot and Placepot winnings are capped at £50,000 per customer per day, a limit few punters will trouble. If you are building multiples, our bet calculator will show the returns before you commit.

Streaming and racing features

Paddy Power streams live racing in its app and on the website. Its own guide says you need a funded account and a bet placed before racing pictures will play, so expect to have money on the race you want to watch. The Meetings & Results tab is the place to find extra place races and results, and Paddy Power’s news site carries race previews and festival coverage. For the day’s fields and form, start with our today’s racing page.

Racing promotions

Double Result applies to British and Irish races with an industry starting price: if your horse passes the post first but loses the race on a stewards’ inquiry, Paddy Power pays out anyway. Money Back Tokens turn up on selected racing, Daily Extra Place races add a place to the each-way terms on chosen contests, and Power Prices boost selected runners. Remember that Power Prices and Money Back tokens are excluded from Best Odds Guaranteed, so you are choosing one concession or the other.

Using Paddy Power free bets: claiming, topping up and the bonus toggle

Paddy Power handles free bets differently from most rivals, and a couple of its quirks change how you should use the £30 from the YSKAST sign-up deal.

Claim before you can spend. Promotional free bets generally have to be claimed from the promotions page before they can be used. Once claimed, they show under Active Free Bets in the app’s account menu, where View Bonus/T&Cs lists each one’s expiry and any market restrictions.

Part free bet, part cash. A free bet can cover all or part of a stake. If you stake more than your free bet balance, Paddy Power takes the difference from your cash balance, so a £10 bet can be funded with £5 of free bet and £5 of your own money. To use it, add the selection to the slip, switch on the Use available bonus toggle and place the bet.

Which free bet goes first. If you hold several, the system picks the most relevant, in the order they were awarded. A racing-only free bet is held back while an unrestricted one is available, so the welcome free bets may be used on a horse before a racing token you were saving.

A worked example. Deposit £5 by debit card and back a horse at 6/4 for £5. It runs third, the bet settles and £30 in free bets lands, valid for 30 days. Put £5 of it on a 3/1 winner and you receive £15, since free bet stakes are not returned. Free bets are also outside Best Odds Guaranteed, so if that horse drifts to 5/1 you are still paid at 3/1.

Paddy Power promotions for existing customers: Money Back tokens and Paddy’s Rewards Club

Paddy Power gives regular customers more control over its racing refunds than most bookmakers do, by handing them out as tokens you apply yourself.

Money Back as a Free Bet tokens

On selected days, Paddy Power issues Money Back tokens for UK and Irish races with eight or more runners. Apply one to a pre-race win single, or the win part of an each-way single, by tapping the Money Back box on the bet slip. If the horse finishes second, third or fourth, the stake comes back as a free bet of up to £50 per race, credited within two hours and valid for seven days on any racing market. Cash stakes only: the token cannot be combined with a free bet, and a token bet forfeits Best Odds Guaranteed and does not count towards Paddy’s Rewards Club. A non-runner returns the token for another race; cashing out loses it. Some tokens are restricted to particular meetings, and the one expiring soonest is used first.

Paddy’s Rewards Club

Opt in, then place five bets of £5 or more at evens or bigger between Monday and Sunday, and a free bet of between £5 and £50, depending on your eligibility, arrives by noon the following Monday. It can go on any sports market for seven days. Boosted prices, Money Back token bets, cashed-out, void and Tote bets and anything placed with a free bet do not count, and several bets on the same selection count once. Miss two weeks in a row and you drop out of the club and must opt in again. Qualifying also gives you a two-question head start in the Beat The Drop game.

Extra Places and free Bet Builders

Extra Place races are open to new and existing UK and Irish customers, need no opt-in, and pay an additional place on each-way singles and multiples in selected races, listed in their own section of the Horse Racing tab. On selected Premier League weekends Paddy Power also hands out a free Bet Builder, claimed from the promotions page and valid on a Bet Builder of three or more legs; once placed, it cannot be cashed out or edited.

Paddy Power app and payments

The Paddy Power Sports Betting app holds a 4.7 rating on the UK App Store from more than 266,000 ratings, among the strongest numbers of any British bookmaker. Racing, live streams, the bet slip and the Tote all sit in the same app, and Best Odds Guaranteed opt-in is handled through the promotions page. Our guide to the best betting apps sets it against the rest of the market.

Deposits can be made by Visa or Mastercard debit card, Apple Pay, Pay by Bank, bank transfer, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller and Rapid Transfer. Withdrawals are quick: Pay by Bank is immediate, instant card withdrawals to Visa and participating Mastercard accounts usually take one to four hours, PayPal, Skrill and Neteller take up to 24 hours, and a standard card withdrawal takes two to five working days. UK bank transfers requested before 10:30am are processed the same day.

Is Paddy Power safe and legit?

Yes. Paddy Power’s British sports betting is run by PPB Counterparty Services Limited, based in St Julian’s, Malta, which holds a remote General Betting Standard licence from the UK Gambling Commission under account number 39439; ‘paddy power’ is listed as an active trading name on that account. The casino and bingo side sits with PPB Entertainment Limited (account 39426). Both are part of Flutter Entertainment plc, which also owns Sky Bet and Betfair. As with every licensed British operator, you can self-exclude through GAMSTOP, and live chat is the quickest route to customer support.

Paddy Power pros and cons

What we like

  • Each-way place terms published in full
  • Double Result pays out on horses disqualified after the race
  • Free bets last 30 days, with quick withdrawals

What could be better

  • BOG needs an opt-in and a £5 stake, capped at £1,000 a day
  • E-wallet deposits excluded from the welcome offer
  • Streaming rules not set out in detail

Our verdict on Paddy Power for racing punters

Paddy Power sells itself on mischief, but the racing product underneath the jokes is a serious one. Best Odds Guaranteed covers British and Irish racing, each-way place terms are published in full rather than buried, a handful of Extra Place races run every day and Double Result pays out on a horse first past the post that later loses the race in the stewards’ room. Add a superbly rated app and withdrawals that can land within the hour, and it earns its 8 out of 10.

The small print is where it drops points. Best Odds Guaranteed needs a one-off opt-in, applies only to stakes of £5 or more and stops at £1,000 of extra winnings a day, which will irritate exactly the small-stakes Saturday punter Paddy Power so often courts. E-wallet deposits do not count towards the welcome offer, and the streaming rules are not spelled out as clearly as at some rivals. None of it is a deal-breaker, but read the terms before you assume you are covered.
