DraftKings opened for Albertans on 13 July 2026, launch day for the province's regulated market, and its Canadian App Store listing now states that it is "live & accepting bets in Ontario and Alberta".
We score it 8.3 out of 10. It is best for bettors who like player props and same-game combinations, and who want a wide menu that reaches well beyond hockey.
DraftKings built its name on daily fantasy sports, and it shows in the sportsbook: player props are everywhere, and same-game combinations are easy to put together. Its Canadian App Store listing carries 4.7 out of 5 from about 16,000 ratings.
On the minus side, live streaming is not advertised in its Canadian listing, and the busy layout can make it harder for beginners to find a simple moneyline.
DraftKings suits the fan who follows individual players as closely as teams and enjoys turning that knowledge into a prop or a same-game combination. It also suits bettors who drift between sports, from the NHL to UFC and esports, in a single evening. If you want a calmer screen, FanDuel is easier on the eye.
Yes. DraftKings is a legal, regulated option for players in Alberta. The province opened its competitive online market on 13 July 2026 under the iGaming Alberta Act, and two public bodies split the work. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) registers and regulates operators. The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), a Crown corporation, conducts and manages the commercial market. An operator has to register with AGLC and then complete a commercial agreement with AiGC before it can take a bet from an Albertan.
AiGC publishes the directory of approved sites, and its rule of thumb is blunt: if an operator does not appear there, it is not regulated. DraftKings is listed as DraftKings Sportsbook & Casino.
It was among the 22 sites approved for launch day, 13 July 2026. Its Canadian App Store listing confirms: "We're currently live & accepting bets in Ontario and Alberta, Canada."
The DraftKings menu runs wide. Alongside the NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB, its Canadian listing names soccer, golf, UFC/MMA, boxing, motorsports, esports and college sports. CFL fans will find the Elks and Stampeders in season, and the Grey Cup is a highlight of the football calendar.
Props are where DraftKings earns its place. For an Oilers–Flames game you can expect markets on goals, points, assists and shots for individual players, and you can combine them with a moneyline or total in a same-game parlay.
For illustration only: a C$20 bet on the Oilers at 2.50 (+150) returns $50, which is your $20 stake plus $30 profit. A $25 bet on the Flames at 1.80 (-125) returns $45. These are not live prices.
Odds in Canada are commonly shown in decimal format, and many apps let you switch to American odds. Decimal odds include your stake, so 1.80 means a $10 bet returns $18. American odds are quoted against $100: -125 means you risk $125 to win $100, and +150 means a $100 bet wins $150. A decimal price also shows the implied chance: 2.50 works out to 40 per cent, before the sportsbook's margin.
DraftKings' Canadian listing promises live betting with in-game odds that update during play, covering spreads, moneylines and totals. Live markets on the NHL follow each period, and NBA lines move possession by possession.
Live streaming is not advertised in its Canadian listing, so you will want the game on TV or another screen. If you prefer to watch inside the app, bet365 and Betway both advertise streaming.
DraftKings Sportsbook & Casino has 4.7 out of 5 on the Canadian App Store from about 16,000 ratings, and the listing is rated 18+. The same app covers Alberta and Ontario.
The app puts popular parlays and props up front, which suits regular bettors. One App Store reviewer praised its "Slick interface, exceptional customer support". New bettors may prefer to use search to jump straight to a team.
DraftKings' Canadian help centre has dedicated articles on depositing and withdrawing with Interac, the default choice for most Albertans. Other methods appear in the cashier, and balances are in Canadian dollars.
We could not read DraftKings' published withdrawal times for Canada, so check its help centre for current processing times. As everywhere, complete identity checks early, because a first withdrawal can be held until they are done.
DraftKings' Canadian app listing does not include horse racing among its sports.
Horse racing in Canada is bet through pari-mutuel pools supervised by the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency (CPMA), a different system from the fixed odds you get on hockey or football. If you want to bet Century Mile or the big North American cards, our guide to horse racing betting in Alberta covers where Albertans can do that, and the national racing guide explains the pari-mutuel rules.
Every site in AiGC's directory has to offer the same baseline protections: deposit limits, time limits, age verification and self-exclusion. Its Canadian listing is rated 18+ and the app includes age assurance. Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion are available in the account settings, as Alberta requires.
Alberta runs the AGLC Centralized Self-Exclusion Program. According to AiGC, a decision to step away is honoured by all registered iGaming sites in the province, so excluding yourself once covers DraftKings and every other regulated sportsbook at the same time. Details are at selfexclusion.ca.
Set a deposit limit before your first deposit rather than after a bad night. Treat what you stake as the cost of entertainment, never as a way to fix money worries.
DraftKings runs a Canadian help centre with articles on Interac deposits and withdrawals, verification and account settings. That is the first stop for most questions, with contact options linked from the help pages.
Players on the Canadian App Store have praised its customer support, though experiences vary, as they do with every book.
We read DraftKings' listing on the Canadian App Store. Per-review star ratings were not displayed on the page we read, so none are shown.
“Slick interface, exceptional customer support.”
“Really good”
“I've lost $1200 to the casino I wish I never found this app”
Quoted word for word from public reviews; one review is never the whole picture. Alberta’s regulated market opened on 13 July 2026, so reviews dated earlier on the same Canadian listing come from players in Ontario.
How DraftKings compares with three other Alberta sportsbooks on the points that matter.
| Sportsbook | Live in Alberta since | App rating (Canada) | Live streaming | Interac |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DraftKings Alberta | 13 July 2026 | iOS 4.7 (16K ratings) | Not advertised | Yes |
| FanDuel Alberta | 13 July 2026 | iOS 4.8 (47K ratings) | Not advertised | Not named in app listing |
| bet365 Alberta | 13 July 2026 | iOS 4.7 (182K ratings) | Yes | Yes |
| theScore Bet Alberta | 13 July 2026 | iOS 4.7 (29K ratings) | Not advertised | Yes |
DraftKings and FanDuel are the two to try if parlays are your thing. bet365 is better for watching and betting at once.
