Betway joined Alberta's regulated market later than most. The Alberta iGaming Corporation welcomed it on 28 September 2026, with both sportsbook and casino.
We score it 7.9 out of 10. It is best for bettors who want live streams beside in-play markets, with full and partial Cash Out to manage open bets.
Betway's Canadian app is built around live sport. Its Google Play listing promises daily live streams across soccer, tennis, basketball and baseball, in-play betting with real-time odds, and full and partial Cash Out.
Betway arrived in Alberta about 11 weeks after launch day, so it has less of a local track record than the day-one books. Player reviews on Google Play also mention account and app glitches.
Betway suits the bettor who watches on their phone and likes to manage a bet as the game goes, cashing out part of a parlay when the third period gets nervy. It is less suited to anyone who wants a long local track record before opening an account.
Yes. Betway is a legal, regulated option for players in Alberta. The province opened its competitive online market on 13 July 2026 under the iGaming Alberta Act, and two public bodies split the work. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) registers and regulates operators. The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), a Crown corporation, conducts and manages the commercial market. An operator has to register with AGLC and then complete a commercial agreement with AiGC before it can take a bet from an Albertan.
AiGC publishes the directory of approved sites, and its rule of thumb is blunt: if an operator does not appear there, it is not regulated. Betway is listed at betway.ca/ca-ab.
AiGC announced on 28 September 2026: "Today, we welcome two new sites to Alberta's regulated iGaming market", naming Betway Canada and Golden Tiger Casino. Betway offers both its sportsbook and casino in the province.
Betway is owned by Super Group. Its Canadian Google Play listing says you must be 18+ to play in Alberta and 19+ in Ontario.
Betway covers more than 30 sports. The NHL is the centrepiece for Albertans, with the NFL, NBA, MLB and soccer close behind, and the CFL in season, from Elks and Stampeders games to the Grey Cup.
Same-game parlays let you combine outcomes from one game, and Betway runs a standard spread of moneylines, spreads, totals and props on the major leagues.
For illustration only: a C$20 bet on the Oilers at 2.50 (+150) returns $50, which is your $20 stake plus $30 profit. A $25 bet on the Flames at 1.80 (-125) returns $45. These are not live prices.
Odds in Canada are commonly shown in decimal format, and many apps let you switch to American odds. Decimal odds include your stake, so 1.80 means a $10 bet returns $18. American odds are quoted against $100: -125 means you risk $125 to win $100, and +150 means a $100 bet wins $150. A decimal price also shows the implied chance: 2.50 works out to 40 per cent, before the sportsbook's margin.
Live sport is Betway's strength. Its Canadian Google Play listing describes live streaming of events, including daily streams for soccer, tennis, basketball and baseball, and in-play betting with real-time odds.
Full and partial Cash Out let you close a bet early or take part of the return and leave the rest running. A Cash Out value reflects the current odds, so it can be lower than your stake if the game has turned against you.
Betway - Live Sports Betting holds 4.5 stars on Google Play in Canada from roughly 23,300 reviews, with more than one million downloads. Its listing describes itself as a real-money sportsbook for Ontario and Alberta.
We could not find a Canadian App Store rating for Betway when we checked. The Android app puts streaming, live betting and Cash Out at the front, which suits in-play bettors.
Betway's Canadian app listing says deposits and withdrawals use "trusted payment methods available in your region" without naming them. Check the cashier in your Alberta account for the options and limits that apply to you. Balances are in Canadian dollars.
Complete identity verification early. One Google Play reviewer reported being unable to open an account for over a week, and your first withdrawal will wait on these checks.
Betway's Canadian app listing does not mention horse racing.
Horse racing in Canada is bet through pari-mutuel pools supervised by the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency (CPMA), a different system from the fixed odds you get on hockey or football. If you want to bet Century Mile or the big North American cards, our guide to horse racing betting in Alberta covers where Albertans can do that, and the national racing guide explains the pari-mutuel rules.
Every site in AiGC's directory has to offer the same baseline protections: deposit limits, time limits, age verification and self-exclusion. Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion are available in the account settings, as Alberta requires of every registered site.
Alberta runs the AGLC Centralized Self-Exclusion Program. According to AiGC, a decision to step away is honoured by all registered iGaming sites in the province, so excluding yourself once covers Betway and every other regulated sportsbook at the same time. Details are at selfexclusion.ca.
Set a deposit limit before your first deposit rather than after a bad night. Treat what you stake as the cost of entertainment, never as a way to fix money worries.
Betway runs an online help centre, with contact options linked from the app and the Alberta site.
We read Betway's listing on Google Play in Canada. The reviews we found focus on account and app problems. Per-review star ratings were not displayed on the page we read.
“Downloaded this app a few days ago. Won some bets and lost some.”
“Haven't been able to open my account for over a week now.”
Quoted word for word from public reviews; one review is never the whole picture. Alberta’s regulated market opened on 13 July 2026, so reviews dated earlier on the same Canadian listing come from players in Ontario.
