2025 Belmont Stakes Betting – Things to Know
Just like the 2024 Belmont Stakes, this year’s running will be taking place at Saratoga Race Course instead of Belmont Park. Why this is a key factor is because Belmont Park is a 1 ½ mile race, where as Saratoga Race Course is a 1 ¼ mile race. The Kentucky Derby is a 1 ¼ mile race as well, and Sovereignty who is running in the Belmont Stakes just so happened to win the Kentucky Derby. With being over a week out from race day, the weather is supposed to be partly cloudy on race day but on the day before is supposed to have thunderstorms which could mean a muddy track.rs, especially since Sovereignty, the Derby winner, is back for this one.The Favorites
There seems to be a bit of a rivalry budding with the two top horses in this race. That being the favorite and Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty, and second favorite Preakness Stakes winner Journalism. With Journalism coming into the Derby as the clear favorite to win the race and coming up short to Sovereignty, and then taking the crown at the Preakness when Sovereignty did not race, Journalism is looking to prove that it can beat Sovereignty.
Where Sovereignty has the advantage is that it has already beat Journalism in a race at this distance and if the weather report stays true, a similar track to that win as well. Sovereignty is the best closer in this field and just like in the Derby you can expect him to stay in the middle of the pack and then to make his stride coming down to that final half mile.
2025 Belmont Stakes and Value Picks
Coming in with 7-2 odds is Baeza. After finishing 3rd in the Kentucky Derby Baeza could be a very sneaky pick to come up big in this race. With not running in the Preakness to get a bit of rest and to prepare for the Belmont, trainer John Shirreffs is trying to give his horse the best possible chance to come out on top. Also with the track hopefully to be dried up a bit if there are storms the day before, Baeza could excel at the easier track and take great advantage of it.
Another value pick which is a real interesting one to look at is legendary trainer Bob Baffert’s horse Rodriguez. Rodriguez was originally scheduled to run in the Kentucky Derby but had to be pulled out of the race soon before the race because of a foot injury. And that same foot injury had taken Rodriguez out of the Preakness as well. But trainer Baffert has confirmed that unless something catastrophic happens, Rodriguez will be running. So may be a horse you want to be hesitant to take, but with Bob Baffert being the trainer, anything can happen.
Long Shots
The two horses that are bringing up the rear on the odds are Hill Road at 10-1 odds, and Heart of Honor at 20-1 odds. Hill Road is a good endurance horse that is really good for longer races which might not come into effect and help out here in the Belmont. And then looking at Heart of Honor, he finished fifth in the Preakness and just recently went back to gate school to get some help coming out of the gates. At the Preakness he acted up in the gate and got a real slow start out.
2025 Belmont Stakes Odds & Expert Picks: Who Will Win at Saratoga?
I think the two picks here are one of the two favorites. I would go with Sovereignty because he has already won a race at that length against Journalism. Also with the rest and training gained from skipping the Preakness, Sovereignty is looking to perform at Saratoga.
Rodriguez is a risky pick but could be a good payout to pick to win. And Baeza could be the sneaky one to come out on top of this race, it is not a bad play to go with this horse. If you are looking to put a tiny bet to maybe make some money I would go with the longshots but other than that I would probably stay clear of them.
