S30 pays £30 rather than £40, but for racing punters it is the better deal. The three £10 free bets can go on any sports market except virtuals, so a straight win or each-way bet on a horse is fair game.

Best Odds Guaranteed and each-way terms

BOG covers win and each-way singles and multiples on UK and Irish racing from 08:00 on race day, but only once you have opted in via the link on the racecard; the help centre calls it invite-only. The extra benefit is capped at £25,000 per customer per day, and ante-post, Tote, Each Way Extra, place markets and Betting Without bets are all excluded. Standard each-way terms are clear: 5–7 runners pay 1/4 the odds for two places; 8 or more in a non-handicap pays 1/5 for three; handicaps of 12–15 runners pay 1/4 for three and 16-plus pay 1/4 for four. The published cap is worth understanding rather than fearing. The £25,000 ceiling applies only to the additional amount BOG pays when the starting price beats the odds you took; your winnings at the price you took are never affected. If the SP is shorter, you simply keep your original odds. Few rivals state their ceiling so openly, and for the vast majority of punters it will never come into play.

Bet types

Win, each way and place only are joined by place-only markets paying two, three or four places, forecasts, reverse and combination forecasts, tricasts and combination tricasts. William Hill free bet terms: tokens, deposits and the small print

Whichever promo code you join with, William Hill pays the reward as £10 free bet tokens: three with S30, four Bet Builder tokens with FBB40. How those tokens behave decides what the offer is really worth.

The qualifying bet

It has to be a single, not an accumulator, struck for at least £10 from your main cash balance at evens (2.00) or bigger. A horse at 6/4 qualifies; an odds-on favourite does not. The tokens are added only once that bet has settled, so an evening race or a weekend football match delays them. The offer is online only and limited to one per customer.

Deposits that rule you out

The excluded list is long: PayPal, Neosurf, Paysafe, Apple Pay, NETELLER, Skrill, ecoPayz, Kalibra/Postpay and the WH PLUS Card. Apple Pay is the one that catches people, since William Hill otherwise accepts it from £5. Make the first deposit by debit card.

Where the free bets go

S30 tokens are valid on any sports market except virtuals, so they can go straight on a horse. FBB40 tokens are valid on Bet Builders only, which makes a football match the obvious home: a result, a goalscorer and a corners line combined into one price. Either way, each token expires seven days after it is credited.

Finding and placing a token

Use it whole or lose the rest

A token cannot be split. Put £6 of a £10 free bet on a Bet Builder and the remaining £4 is gone, with no replacement issued. Winnings arrive without the token stake, so the bet slip’s estimated return, which includes the stake, overstates what you will actually receive. Free bets also cannot be paired with William Hill’s Racing Winnings Boost or Football Acca Boost.

A worked example

You register with S30, deposit £10 by debit card and back a horse at 6/4 for £10. It finishes second, and once the race is settled three £10 tokens appear, each with seven days to run. One goes on a 4/1 shot at Newbury; it wins and returns £40 in cash, the £10 token stake not included. Join with FBB40 instead and the same qualifying bet brings four £10 Bet Builder tokens, best spent on the weekend’s football.

William Hill horse racing promotions: Lucky Stable and the Racing Winnings Boost

Alongside BOG and Each Way Extra, William Hill runs two racing promotions aimed at regular customers rather than new sign-ups.

Lucky Stable

A free-to-play game for UK and Irish account holders. When a game opens for a meeting, you reveal a stable of five horses, one per race, drawn at random; you cannot pick or swap them. If three or more of the five win, you share the jackpot equally with every other qualifying stable, paid in cash within 48 hours. A non-runner is replaced by the next-best-rated horse in that race, but a horse in an abandoned race is simply lost, and jackpots that go unwon do not roll over. You get one stable per game, though you can play every game on offer.

Racing Winnings Boost

When the Racing Winnings Boost is available, you get one a day to apply to a horse or greyhound single or accumulator of up to ten selections, staked at up to £20 from your main balance. The size of the boost depends on the odds and appears on the bet slip before you commit, with bigger prices earning bigger boosts. On an each-way bet only the win part is boosted. If the horse also qualifies for Best Odds Guaranteed, you get whichever price is higher, but any cash-out offer is calculated at the original, unboosted price, and the boost cannot be used with a free bet.

William Hill’s racing sponsorships, from the County Hurdle to the Half A Mill

William Hill’s name is all over the jumps calendar. It sponsors the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and Cheltenham’s Showcase meeting, and the Grade One Formby Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree, which it backed on the course’s first Boxing Day card. On the Flat it has put money behind the Lincoln, the Futurity Trophy and Newbury’s Super Saturday. In November 2025 it became an Official Betting Partner of The Jockey Club.

Its boldest racing promotion has been the William Hill Half A Mill. For the 2025-26 jumps season it offered £500,000 to the connections of any horse that won one of three Grand National trials, the Becher Chase at Aintree, the Classic Chase at Warwick or the Grand National Trial at Haydock, and then the Randox Grand National itself, taking the reward for that double to £1 million. The model was One For Arthur, who won the Classic Chase before landing the National in 2017.

Football Acca Boost

Every cash accumulator of two or more football selections, each at 1/5 or bigger, gets a boost on winnings with no opt-in and no daily limit. The scale runs from 3% on a double and 5% on a four-fold through 30% on a ten-timer to 100% on 15 legs and 200% on 20 or more, capped at £10,000 per acca online. It covers the 90-minute result, 2 Up, Both Teams To Score and match goals markets. A void leg drops the boost to the level for the remaining winners, and an acca reduced to a single loses it altogether.

Epic Boosts and Impact Sub

Epic Boosts are heavily enhanced singles on selected events, with the maximum stake shown on your bet slip. Impact Sub protects player bets on marked football markets: if your player is substituted, the bet transfers to his replacement, with any progress already made, such as the first goal of a two-goal bet, carried over. It applies pre-match and in-play, works with free bets, and ends at 90 minutes plus stoppage time.

Smart ACCA

Not a promotion as such, but a free research tool in the football Daily List that ranks selections by season form, the last five matches, head-to-head records or home and away splits, useful for building the acca the boost applies to.

Beyond racing, William Hill covers a broad range of sports, with football, tennis, golf and cricket at the heart of the book. In-play betting comes with live stats, Bet Builder lets you combine several outcomes from one match into a single price, and price boosts and Acca Boost add a little extra to selected bets. Cash out is available across the sportsbook, so you can settle a bet early or take a partial profit while the rest runs.

The app is consistently rated among the better UK betting apps, bringing full racing and sports coverage, in-play markets and WHTV streams together in one place. Its genuine weak point is support, which runs through in-app messaging and a help-centre form, with no phone number for online customers. William Hill’s online business is run by WHG (International) Limited in Gibraltar, which holds UK Gambling Commission licences under account number 39225, including general betting and pool betting. William Hill pros and cons

William Hill for racing punters: our verdict

Few bookmakers are as candid about the small print as William Hill. Its standard each-way terms are published in full, field size by field size, so you know before you bet whether a 12-runner handicap pays three places or four. Each Way Extra lets you choose your own place terms on British and Irish races, a separate Extra Places market collects the day’s enhanced races, and Visa Direct withdrawals arrive within four hours. For a punter who bets each way most days, that is a solid base.

It scores a seven rather than an eight because the headline features come with strings. Best Odds Guaranteed must be switched on from a racecard, William Hill’s own help pages describe it as invite-only, and the extra winnings are capped at £25,000 a day. Watching a race on WHTV costs at least £1 on that race. None of that is unusual among the big high-street names, but it adds friction. The welcome offers, at least, are simple: bet £10 at evens and take either £30 in free bets you can use on racing with S30, or £40 in Bet Builder free bets for sport with FBB40.
