William Hill promo code Ireland: BB40 and the €40 free bet offer

William Hill promo code: Get €40 in free bets with Promo Code BB40

BB40 is the William Hill Promo Code for new Irish customers. Enter it when you register, then place a first qualifying bet of €10 or more at odds of 1/2 (1.50) or bigger. Once that bet settles, William Hill credits €40 in free bets as four €10 tokens, whether the first bet wins or loses.

The free bets last seven days from the moment the qualifying bet was placed, not from when they arrive, so a long-odds ante-post qualifier eats into the time you have to use them. Payment method, player and country restrictions apply, so fund the account with a debit card and check the cashier before you deposit.

William Hill free bet terms explained for Irish punters

The headline is €40, but how those four tokens behave decides what they are worth. William Hill's help centre spells out the rules.

The stake is not returned

Winnings from a free bet are paid without the free bet stake. A €10 token on a 3/1 winner returns €30, not €40. That is standard across the market, and it is the main reason a free bet is worth less than cash.

Each token must be used in full

A €10 free bet cannot be split into two €5 bets. If you stake less than the token's value, the remainder is lost. Plan four separate bets of €10.

Minimum odds of 1/2 on the qualifier

The qualifying bet needs odds of at least 1/2 (1.50). That rules out heavy odds-on favourites but leaves most of a racecard available, including the bulk of runners in a Leopardstown handicap or a Galway maiden.

Where the free bets go and how long they last

Credited tokens appear in the Promotions area and under Free Bet & Bonus in My Account. Under the BB40 terms they expire seven days after the qualifying bet is placed. Free bets cannot be used on casino, poker or bingo, and a bet placed with a free bet can only be cashed out for its value minus the token.

William Hill horse racing: Irish meetings, Best Odds Guaranteed and Each Way Extra

William Hill's bookmaking roots show in the detail of its racing product. The App Store listing pitches Best Odds Guaranteed at UK and Irish racing fans and lists the Irish Oaks alongside Cheltenham, Royal Ascot and the Grand National among the meetings it prices.

Its racing is fixed-odds first. Totepool prices appear only where the market requires them, such as some forecasts, and those bets fall outside Best Odds Guaranteed. Our Irish racing betting hub compares the place terms and concessions across the market.

Best Odds Guaranteed: opt in first

BOG covers win and each-way singles and multiples on UK and Irish racing from 08:00 on race day until the off, for UK and Irish resident customers betting online or in the app. You must opt in through the Best Odds Guaranteed option on the racecard; William Hill describes the concession as invite-only. The extra winnings from a bigger starting price are capped at €25,000 per customer per day, which only matters to very big punters. Ante-post, Tote, Each Way Extra, place-only, Betting Without and insurance bets are excluded.

Each Way Extra on Irish races

Each Way Extra lets you choose your own place terms, at a shorter price, in races with four or more runners. It opens at 08:00 on UK racing and 10:00 on Irish racing. Those bets are not eligible for Best Odds Guaranteed or Cash Out, so weigh the extra place against the lost BOG cover, particularly on a big-field handicap at the Punchestown or Galway festivals.

Standard place terms and Rule 4

Normal terms are 1/5 the odds for three places in non-handicaps of eight or more runners and 1/4 for four places in handicaps of 16 or more. Rule 4 deductions apply when a runner is withdrawn late, capped at 90 per cent in total, and a total deduction of 5 per cent or less is waived.

WHTV streaming

WHTV shows live racing to customers who have a qualifying stake on the race; the published threshold is a £1 win single or 50p each-way single, or the euro equivalent. Qualifying bets can be on UK, Irish or South African racing, while ante-post, Totepool and special bets do not count. William Hill states WHTV cannot be broadcast outside the UK or Ireland, so Irish customers are covered. A free bet of €1 or more also counts towards qualifying.

William Hill sports betting beyond the racecourse

Football, tennis, golf, rugby and the American sports make up the bulk of the sportsbook, with in-play markets and Bet Builder on the bigger fixtures. The App Store listing advertises an Acca Boost for UK and Irish registered customers, so Irish accounts are not left out of the main football promotion.

The welcome free bets can be spread across sports as well as horses, subject to the terms of each token, which makes the offer useful to punters who follow the League of Ireland or the Premier League as closely as the racing.

William Hill offers for existing customers

Beyond the sign-up bonus, William Hill's standing offers for Irish customers centre on racing: opt-in Best Odds Guaranteed, Each Way Extra and boosted prices on selected runners. Football punters get Acca Boost on qualifying accumulators. Each promotion has its own eligibility and some are by invitation, so check the Promotions tab in your account rather than relying on what a friend has been offered.

The William Hill app, deposits and withdrawals in Ireland

The William Hill Sports Betting app holds a 4.7-star rating on the App Store, and its description lists the Irish support line for problem gambling alongside the racing and football features. Betting TV, inside the app, carries free coverage of selected racing, with WHTV pictures of individual races unlocked by a qualifying bet.

Irish accounts are in euro. Credit cards cannot be used for gambling in Ireland under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, so deposits run through debit cards and the other methods offered in the cashier. The BB40 terms note payment method restrictions on the welcome offer, so a debit card is the safest route. Withdrawals go back to the deposit method where possible, with processing times shown before you confirm.

Is William Hill licensed in Ireland?

Yes. For customers in the Republic of Ireland the website is operated by WH Ireland Limited, a Gibraltar-registered company holding Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland remote betting licence GRAI-1096-RB-26-0001. It was issued on 15 July 2026 and runs until 14 July 2029. Casino and poker products are run under a separate Gibraltar remote gaming licence, because the GRAI has not yet begun licensing online gaming.

As a GRAI licensee, William Hill must verify age, pay out winnings, refuse credit cards and close accounts when asked. Set a deposit limit when you open the account. The Gambling Care helpline is free on 1800 936 725, and gamblingcare.ie has more support.

William Hill pros and cons

What we like

  • €40 in free bets from a €10 qualifier at 1/2
  • Best Odds Guaranteed with a €25,000 daily cap
  • Each Way Extra on Irish racing from 10:00
  • WHTV streaming of UK and Irish racing

What could be better

  • BOG requires an opt-in and is invite-only
  • Free bet stakes are not returned and tokens must be used in full
  • Payment method restrictions on the welcome offer

Our verdict on William Hill in Ireland

William Hill pairs a generous welcome offer with a racing product built by people who understand each-way betting. Four €10 free bets for a €10 qualifier at 1/2 is good value, provided you use them inside the seven-day window.

Remember to opt in to Best Odds Guaranteed before your first morning bet. If you want BOG without the opt-in and early prices on every race, our bet365 Ireland review is the natural comparison; for an Irish-owned alternative, read our Paddy Power review.
