The Ladbrokes Trophy was first run in 1957 as the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, originally staged at Cheltenham before switching to its current home in 1960. It has a winners’ roster that includes greats like Arkle and Mill House and has been won by nine horses that have also claimed the Cheltenham Gold Cup – Native River was the last in 2018. Many Clouds won the 3m2f test of stamina in 2014 before going on to win the Grand National four months later.
