Chester Festival Key Betting Trends

The May meeting is the season highlight for the course situated on the border between England and Wales, with the Chester Cup, Chester Vase, and the Cheshire Oaks three of the big races on the three-day card. The Chester Cup is the most valuable, run since 1824, and one that has proved popular with Irish raiders over recent years, with Aidan O’Brien and Dermot Weld among the trainers to send their horses

Despite the race being run over two-miles-and-two furlongs the draw is seen as key, with the lower the better, although the last two winners have been drawn in double figures. The tight track also favours horses with form at the venue, and jockey form at Chester is also something to bear in mind when making your selection. Favourites in the Chester Cup have a miserable record, with just one winner in the last 16 runnings; look at horses further down the betting with form over two miles and further, with seven of the last nine winners returned at odds in double figures.
